Itasca ditches the campfire for the cosmos on “Imitation of War.” Kayla Cohen (a.k.a. Itasca) electrifies her sound, weaving shimmering guitar lines reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s “Court and Spark” with a hazy, psychedelic twist. The album feels vast and spacious, each song an invitation to explore. Despite this sonic shift, Cohen’s signature intimacy remains, allowing the listener to sink into Cohen’s dreamy melodies. Electrifying the Itasca sound was a logical evolution for Cohen, and it’s a shift well worth following.
